This week is National Assisted Living Week. Created as an annual observance in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living, the week celebrates all the great work that assisted living staff and caregivers provide for the 1 million assisted living residents in the United States. This year's theme for National Assisted Living Week is "A Spark of Creativity".
That theme was chosen to inspire assisted living residents, their caregivers and assisted living staff. We all know the benefits of having art in our lives and during National Assisted Living Week, assisted living residents are encouraged to explore art therapy. Art therapy can provide many benefits to seniors including improving social skills and increasing their cognitive and sensory motor functions.
Caregivers who work with assisted living residents can help improve the quality of their clients' lives by coming up with innovative and new things that could inspire their clients. And the staff at assisted living facilities work together to provide unique and new activities, such as music therapy, that can help improve the quality of their residents' lives.
