April 28 Is Pay It Forward Day -
How Can We All Pay It Forward?

The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.

In 2007, Pay It Forward Day was started in Australia. By 2016, nearly 80 countries around the world had citizens participating with a goal of creating 10 million acts of kindness.

The message behind Pay It Forward Day is that we should all take the opportunity to do a good deed for someone else without asking for or expecting anything in return. Instead we should encourage the recipient of our good deed to "pay it forward" by doing a good deed for someone they encounter. The Pay It Forward Foundation believes that small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world for the better.

Our belief at Right at Home of Central New Jersey is that we always try to pay it forward by taking care of our clients, their family members, our caregivers, our colleagues, our partners and our community the way we would want someone to take care of our own family.

What can you do to pay it forward? We'll be trying to make others lives better on Pay It Forward Day. Please share your stories on our Facebook page and inspire us. And remember that we can all "be the change we want to see in the world".

April 27 Is National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day - Here's Why You Need to Do It

The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The goal is to raise awareness and effectively rid homes of unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications sitting in medicine cabinets, night stands or kitchen cabinets that have the potential for diversion or abuse by family members, friends or visitors to your home.

Your medicine cabinet might be filled with many ticking time-bombs — you just don’t know which drug, when it will happen or who might be affected. You can do your part to dispose of those leftover and unused medications that can lead to misuse, addiction, poisoning or death.

Everyone is encouraged to take time during National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day to make his or her home safe and do their part to help fight drug addiction. Review medications wherever you keep them — in your medicine cabinet, nightstand or kitchen cabinets, for example — and safely dispose of leftovers from any surgery or illness or those that have expired. You can safely, effectively and easily dispose of these medications by using a site-of-use, in-home disposal solution available online. You can see for yourself how easy and safe it can be.

During the last National Take Back day, nearly 6000 collection sites participated and 457 tons of medications were collected.

To find a collection site near you, please click on the Take Back Day link.

April Is National Parkinson's Awareness Month - Let Right at Home Help You Manage!

"It May Shake Me But It Can't Break Me"

The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.

Every year, more than 60,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and approximately one million Americans are living today with Parkinson's.

According to the Mayo Clinic, risk factors for Parkinson's disease include age, heredity, exposure to toxins and gender. Did you know men are much more like to develop Parkinson's disease than women? And that most people diagnosed with Parkinson's are over the age of 60 but 1 in 20 people are diagnosed under the age of 40?

Some of the symptoms can be:

  • difficulty in thinking
  • tremors
  • slowness of movement
  • muscle stiffness or rigidity
  • depression
  • speech problems
  • balance issues
  • swallowing and chewing problems
  • sleep disorders
  • emotional changes
Right at Home of Central New Jersey has a Right Parkinson's Disease Specialty Program that can help our clients and their family members manage the illness safely at home. Our great caregivers and nurses can:

  • help provide transportation to doctor appointments
  • promote a balanced diet by preparing healthy foods high in fiber and containing omega-3 fatty acids, which can be beneficial to ease some of the symptoms of Parkinson's
  • assist your loved one in exercise to improve muscle strength, flexibility and balance (all of which can help avoid falls)
Please call Beth Sholom, Owner/Executive Director of Right at Home of Central New Jersey to let us know how we can help you and your family. We want both our clients and their caregiver spouses and family members to be as free from stress as possible.

We provide care from a few hours a day to overnight shifts to live-in care. We'll work with you to come up with the best plan for your family and always be available 24/7 to help. We care for your family as we would for our own!
