Pampered Chef Virtual Fundraiser for New Jersey Alzheimer’s Association
On Memorial Day, Right at Home Remembers All Who Sacrificed For Our Country
Right at Home of Central New Jersey
Honors and Remembers All Who Have Sacrificed For Our Country
The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.
On Memorial Day we honor those who died in service to our country. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was created in 1868 out of a desire to honor the fallen of the Civil War.
Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae during World War I wrote a poem called "In Flanders Fields" to honor his fallen friends after seeing red poppies appear all over European battlefields. A few years later, inspired by his poem, a woman named Moina Michaels wrote her own poem in response which read:
"We cherish too the Poppy Red
That grows on fields where valor led.
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies".
She spearheaded the movement to have people wear a red poppy on Memorial Day in honor of all those who died serving our country. Because of her work, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) developed their " buddy poppy " program which sells red poppies made by disabled veterans to anyone who wants to purchase one.
We at Right at Home of Central New Jersey honor those who sacrificed so much for our freedom and our liberty and ask that you wear a buddy poppy on Memorial Day.

Right at Home Celebrates the Legacy of Bill Buckner
Right at Home of Central New Jersey
Remembers Bill Buckner
The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.
If you are old enough to remember the remarkable story of the 1986 New York Mets and their World Series win, you'll remember Game 6 at Shea Stadium when the Boston Red Sox were just 2 outs shy of winning the series. Mookie Wilson came to bat, hit a ball towards first base where Bill Buckner was playing and the rest is New York Mets history.
This week Bill Buckner died at the age of 69 from that most horrible of diseases, dementia, surrounded by his family. He had a long and storied baseball career, winning a batting championship and also being an All-Star but, sadly, most people may remember him only from his fielding error in 1986. When interviewed about his death, Mookie Wilson said:
"We had developed a friendship that lasted well over 30 years. I felt badly for some of the things he went through. Bill was a great, great baseball player whose legacy should not be defined by one play".
We at Right at Home of Central New Jersey celebrate the life and career of Bill Buckner and give a shout-out to our own New York Met Mookie Wilson for reminding people that Bill Buckner had a life well lived, shortened by the terrible disease of dementia.

May Is National Better Hearing Month
May Is Better Hearing Month -
Here Are Some Things You Should Know
The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.
May is National Better Hearing Month and the American Academy of Audiology encourages people to make an appointment with an audiologist if they suspect hearing loss for themselves or their family members.
According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 15% of Americans 18 and over have some trouble hearing and almost 29 million people could benefit from hearing aids (although fewer than one in three Americans has ever used them).
Some signs of hearing loss may include:
- having to keep turning up the volume of your television or radio (and having your family members tell you the volume is too loud).
- difficulty understanding people speaking to you and asking people to repeat themselves.
- difficulty hearing phone conversations.
- sudden inability to hear doorbells, dogs barking or other household sounds.
- ringing in your ears.
While hearing aids may be the best solution for you or someone you love who has some hearing loss, they're not always the only solution which is why seeing an audiologist is so important. Sometimes partial hearing loss can be temporary or a symptom of another illness or disease and having an audiologist run tests will help determine the cause and recommend the appropriate course of action and treatment.
One of the things you can do right now is download the free hearScreenUSA app (developed in collaboration with the American Academy of Audiology) to your phone. The app allows you to do a simple hearing test and, if hearing loss is detected, the app will connect you with a verified audiologist for further testing and treatment.

May 23 Will be A Day to Perform Kind Acts to Honor Fred Rogers
May 23 Is the Day To Perform Kind Acts
In Honor of Fred Rogers
The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.
Right at Home.
The Governor of Pennsylvania has declared that May 23 will be the day that residents of Pennsylvania (and anyone else who wishes to participate) can perform acts of kindness in honor of Mr. Rogers.
May 23 was chosen as it is the143rd day of the year and 143 was Fred Rogers' favorite number. It was his favorite because each digit reflected the number of letters in each word in his favorite phrase: "I love you". The day was selected, according to the Pennsylvania deputy secretary of marketing, as an antidote to all the negativity we are surrounded with every day.
As Fred Rogers once said "Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person".
Our belief at Right at Home of Central New Jersey is that we always try to lead by example and be as kind as we can to our clients, their family members, our caregivers, our colleagues, our partners and our community in the same way that we would want someone to be kind to our family members.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
25 years ago today, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, arguably our most iconic and stylish First Lady, passed away at the age of 64. In addition to her sense of style and grace, Mrs. Kennedy is remembered for many things.
She oversaw the renovation of the White House which had not been updated in many years. She helped the White House acquire historically significant pieces of furniture that had been owned by former Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and transformed the White House into a more modern and elegant space.
In order to protect her children from the paparazzi (which hounded Mrs. Kennedy endlessly) and to ensure their safety, she established a school inside the White House which she then extended to include school-age children of White House staffers.
Realizing the value of arts in the lives of Americans, she pushed for the creation of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Arts and, years later when she had returned to New York City to live, she was responsible for leading a successful campaign to save New York’s Grand Central Station. She also championed preserving and enhancing New York treasures like the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute as well as the American Ballet Theater at Lincoln Center.
Right at Home of Central New Jersey remembers Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis today and all of the good works she accomplished both as First Lady and as a private citizen.
