Where Were You 50 Years Ago Today? Right at Home Was Watching the Moon Landing!

50 Years Ago Today, We Landed on the Moon. Right at Home of Central New Jersey
Celebrates That Amazing Accomplishment!

The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.

On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first people to ever step on to the surface of the moon.

After 4 days traveling to the moon piloted by astronaut Michael Collins, the lunar module landed on the Sea of Tranquility prompting Neil Armstrong to say "The Eagle has landed".

It's estimated that between 500-600 million people (about 1/5 of the entire population of the earth) watched the moon landing live (most likely on a black-and-white television!)

Here are some fun facts about the 50th anniversary of the moon landing you should know.

The United States Post Office is issuing two moon landing commemorative stamps to celebrate the historic achievement. There will be multiple Apollo 11 documentaries shown on various basic cable channels in the days leading up to the 50th anniversary.

NASA has announced that it will be broadcasting live from various locations including the Kennedy Space Center, the mission control room at the Johnson Space Center and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum beginning on July 19. They also have a number of exhibits relating to the moon landing open to the public throughout the country.

Besides the historic nature of landing on the moon, the Apollo missions and the technology they employed are responsible for introducing the world to freeze-dried food, Velcro, memory foam, water filters, and the scratch-resistant coatings found on eyeglasses.

Do you remember where you were when man landed on the moon? We sure do and talking about it with your parents or grandparents or spouse is a good memory exercise to help them remember where they were that fateful day.

Right at Home of Central New Jersey celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and honors the incredible efforts not only of the astronauts but of all the men and women at NASA who worked so long and so tirelessly to help America achieve what had never been achieved before.
