If Your Loved One Has a Medical Condition, Right at Home of Central New Jersey Suggests Using This Tool While They're In a Car

There Are Ways to Keep Your Loved One Safe While They're Traveling In a Car

The right people, doing the right things,
the right way, for the right reasons.
Right at Home.

Whether you are a senior who still is able to drive your own car, or you are a family member or caregiver or neighbor who drives someone to appointments and errands, safety is always paramount.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your loved one was involved in a motor vehicle accident? What if your loved one had medical conditions (like dementia or Parkinson's), or was hearing impaired, or had a medical device (such as a pacemaker), or was non-verbal, or had allergic reactions to certain medicines? Wouldn't you want the medical team who helped your loved one to quickly have access to all of the medical information they needed to give your family member the best possible care?

Because some seniors can become easily confused in an accident, no matter how minor, they may not be able to understand what they are being asked nor convey what medical professionals need to know. Here's a way that you can make sure that won't happen.

There are a number of companies and individuals that make seat belt covers that can be customized to identify the medical condition your loved one has and even display their name and date of birth. Some of these seat belt covers even contain an inside pocket where you can list all of your family member's medications and allergies, as well as their doctors and their emergency contact information.

For example, Amazon includes a number of customized seat belt covers that are reasonably priced and can be delivered to you or your family member fairly quickly. (The link shown is provided only as an example and our inclusion of it is not intended to be our endorsement of that particular company). There are also medical alert stickers and decals that can be ordered to provide an extra level of protection in the event of a medical emergency.

You can also search on such sites as Etsy and eBay  by just entering the term "medical alert seat belt covers" and you'll be able to locate any number of companies that can customize and provide them to you.

Right at Home of Central New Jersey is always pleased when we find a new product or service that we think would benefit our clients, their families and our caregivers and we will always share that type of information with you.
